About GSU

Grain and General Services Union (GSU) represents working people across Western Canada. We are headquartered in Regina with a second office in Saskatoon.

The foremost goal of GSU is to serve the needs of all members. GSU’s financial and human resources are directed to providing service and protection for its members.

We represent a true cross section of the workforce. Our members are grain workers, accountants, salespeople, information technologists, barn and fish farm workers, advertising sales staff, journalists, laboratory workers, welders, and more. Many GSU members have special training or are certified in their respective fields.

Since 1936, GSU has worked hard to represent its members. We have bargained hundreds of workplace contracts and agreements, fought successfully for improved health and safety in the workplace, improved benefit plans, protected pension plans, and implemented grievance and arbitration procedures which have allowed disputes to be settled fairly and consistently. We are proud of what we have accomplished and we will continue to work hard to improve workplace conditions for our members.

Our members are never alone in facing changes and challenges in the workplace. No matter where they work, GSU is as close as the telephone or internet.

Additional information about GSU and the services we provide is available on our website – www.gsu.ca.

Membership Dues

GSU is funded exclusively by membership dues (known as union dues). Every employee who is covered by a collective agreement pays dues which entitle them not only to the services and benefits the union negotiates into their collective agreements, but to the services and representation provided by GSU.

GSU’s services are provided by staff employed by the union. Occasionally legal counsel, actuaries, and other experts are retained to provide specialized services.

GSU dues are 1.75 percent of your regular pay. No dues are collected on overtime pay or bonus pay. All union dues are 100 percent income tax deductible. Employees in GSU bargaining units also pay an additional 1 percent to a maximum of $10 per month into the GSU Defense Fund.
